Day 1(5 April)
So today I started my first day as a trainee in Celcom…with not enough sleep (so nervous, cannot sleep well)…I don’t know what is the working hour so my mom just said maybe 8.30 am…so at 8.20 I drove my car to Celcom in Tanah Putih about 6 or 7 km from my house in Indera Mahkota but I arrived at Celcom at 8.35(so many traffic lights)…as I arrived, I was stopped by the Guard and give me a contractor name tag and said to see Kak Lin as I said that I want to report for duty…I walk up the stairs and found that they were having a morning talk so I just wait at the stairs till one of the staff told me to join the briefing…I was asked by the one that give the talk(hmm I don’t know who)..who am I and what I’m doing here…so I introduce myself and my purpose and after that he just continue again with the talk…so after the talk, one of the staff accompanied me to see Kak Chik and I give her the acceptance letter and asked me whether I’m alone because there’s also an acceptance letter from one of UNITEN’s student(Suraya Fattanah)…I have no idea that there’s someone else training here…hmm nevermind… there’s a breakfast prepared(nasi lemak) so they said let’s eat first…after breakfast, one of the staff ask me to follow him upstairs…so he introduce himself…his name…En. Rosli Ali(because there’s another Rosli there he said) and he is the Head of CME unit…so he draw the organization chart and explained…
RNO - Region Network Operation
NPID - Network Planning and Implementation Department
NQS - Network Quality and Support
FOD -Fault Operation Department
SMU - Site Management Unit
PMO - Planning Management Opertaion
CME - Civil,Mechanical,Electrical/Infrastructure
Then I know that the one that give the morning talk was the Head of Regional Network Operation, Hj. Nizam…and I was under supervision of En. Wan Norhisham (Head of Transmission Unit and Mobile Unit) but he’s not here today because he had a meeting in KL…then En. Rosli Ali introduce me to the whole staff on that floor(PMO,CME,Tx,Mobile,NQS Unit)…not so many staff, just around 20++ but that day not all staff were there(outstation)…En Rosli Ali let me settle down beside his cube (previously cube of Head of Transmission Unit but already retired)…nothing to do so I just read the Celcom’s OSH policy…
Then I made up my mind that I have to do something…so I ask Encik Zul about his scope of work and he explained something about transmission and mobile equipment (tower, pole, antenna, BTS(2G), Node B(3G), rectifier, feeder) and what happen from planning to implementation…so he asked me to take a look on the Site Design Package(SDP) for 2G and 3G network…SDP contain the planning before 2G network or 3G network can be implement…for 2G it is for new site(new tower) to be implemented the equipment while 3G is on existing 2G site…just read and look and the picture in SDP till 1.00 pm then went home for lunch…I came back at 3.00 pm(since my supervisor is not here) and bring my brother’s laptop(huh I don’t have one, just have a desktop)…I thought I can connect to Internet easily but I can’t and don’t have courage to ask other staff how to…so I just type what I want to put in the blog on Microsoft word…then I went downstairs to the parking lot and take some pictures of antenna and cabin and the office building…
Lamp pole(Near the entrance gate)
Boom(rooftop of the office)
Cabin
Front of the office(cannot enter through that door)
Then after solat Asar…I ask one of the transmission staff, Encik Syed about transmission and he told me basic thing about transmission…the transmission tower, they called Radio Base Station (RBS), main tower (Base Station Controller), carrier frequency that used by Celcom from one RBS to another(7Ghz(< 30 km),8,13,15,18GHz(<3km) – higher frequency, low coverage)…and same goes for GSM(2G) frequency(900Mhz – large coverage, 1800MHz – half the 900MHz coverage)…En. Syed asked me whether Celcom pay me or not(I got no allowance)…if not he said by 5.30 pm just go home(its 5.45 at that time)…huh end of first day…
Day 2(6 April)
So today I arrived about 8.25am and found that my supervisor was already in the office so I went straight to him and he was so shocked because I suddenly came straight to him and he didn't know what I'm doing there(I thought he already know that I'm under his supervision maybe because he was so busy meeting yesterday)...so I show him the acceptance letter and told him that I came yesterday to report for duty to Kak Chik and En Rosli Ali(cube beside him) has already guided me for some basic info...then my supervisor ask me why am I want to do practical here whether I really want here or because near to my house...I said both...so he told me to settle down in the planning room(aka meeting room) because he said easy for him to guide me about anything using the whiteboard and I can joined all the meeting...
The Planning Room
In the planning room(self read the SDP)
so about 9.30am there was a meeting involving transmission unit by En. Wan Norhisham...the meeting was about submitting MR by this Friday(9 April) of DSX(new DDF) installation to replace existing Digital Distribution Frame(DDF) in 15 sites and by the end of this month the migration/swap from every region to Central Region...there were 3 technical officer and they were assigned to go the 15 sites(eastern region include kelantan, terengganu and pahang)...after the meeting En. Wan Norhisham explained to me about the NPID and where am I in this Department so again I'm under the transmission and mobile unit...and he briefly explained about the different between transmission unit and mobile unit...type of equipment involved in transmission (microwave,Vsat,Fibre,Leased Line) and the output (data and voice) via E1 with data rate 2Mbps...while mobile access equipments such as (Base Transceiver Station(BTS) for 2G, node B for 3G, antenna system, indoor unit) which based on the Site Design Package(SDP) and Site identification form(SIF)...
Day 3(7 April)
Today was a meeting involved the mobile unit and it was about April Target for on air site(15 sites - 10 sites for 2G and 5 sites for 3G)...so next week on 14 April will be my first time on site(2 sites in Kuantan)...I will follow En. Zul to supervised Celcom's contractor(like my friend, Hafiiz now practical at Dailycom) to equip the existing 2G sites with 3G(add node B, 3G antenna, rectifier, DDF)...on the evening around 5.15pm, En. Wan Norhisham continue yesterday's briefing but this time about mobile...I was told about the type of equipment(BTS) used for 2G...for Celcom in the Eastern Region only used BTS from Alcatel and Ericsson(there are indoor unit, outdoor unit)...for outdoor unit there are 3 types of cell (macrocell on the rooftop, microcell(street level or on the wall of building),picocell use in the building)...then he talk about Planning and implementation...planning for indoor BTS(equipment need - 3-phase 415 VAC,-48VDC rectifier, BTS)...for outdoor BTS(equipment need - 3phase 415VAC, BTS)...the different between outdoor and indoor is just outdoor BTS directly connect to AC but indoor need DC...then they have to plan the height of the tower, type of antenna, transmission frequency(GHz),cell frequency(900 or 1800MHz),bandwidth, numbers of channel, type of feeder, breaker(for Ericsson 40A, Alcatel 50A, 3G(node B) 63A)...cost estimate for one tower is RM 2.4 to 3 million...so to complaint that there are some places didn't have Celcom coverage and think that Celcom don't do their work...please think that about the cost(if you really want please give RM 2.5 million to Celcom..wahaha)...after completed the planning the implementation part is just to fulfill the planning request...time was 5.50pm already huhu...end of day 3...
Day 4(8 April)
Arrived at Celcom as usual around 8.25am and found that there were no car parked in the middle of the carpark...hmm I was wondering why...so I went upstairs and eavesdrop a little bit and found out that there will be a fire drill and demonstration at 9am...my supervisor asked me to see Kak Chik about my attendance so I went to see Kak Chik and she told me to meet her after the fire drill...actually there's no fire drill, just a briefing and demonstration by the fire & rescue department(Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat)...before the briefing there's breakfast prepared so let's eat first...some content about the briefing...3 element to make fire...cause of fire...fire spread factors...death cause of fire...how to pull out the fire...and here are some pictures...
Briefing...
Thats me beside my supervisor(En.Wan Norhisham)
Fill the oil
Fire it up
Extinguish it...yeah!!
after the fire briefing I went to see Kak Chik and she give me a logbook to write my attendance(time in, time out) in case the visiting lecturer ask...there's also lunch provided that afternoon...in the evening before went home En. Wan Norhisham assigned me to make a training schedule...4 weeks in transmission unit...3 weeks in mobile unit...2 weeks x 3 for CME, SMU and PMO...total 13 weeks...
Day 5(9 April)
huh..finally the last day of the week...today there was another meeting and this time involve PMO and CME units...this meeting was conduct by the HOD of NPID, En Rizal...this meeting was about Purchase Requisition(PR) approval for 2G(26 sites) and 3G(143 sites)...about site identification form (SIF)...about Technical Proposal(TP) approval...and CME new sites(2G + 3G = 5 sites, 2G = 21sites, 3G = 39sites)...during the meeting...I was asked by En. Huzaimie(CME unit staff) to help him do the quotation for Bill of Quantity(BOQ)...in the evening I submitted the training schedule to my supervisor and went home...
huh end of first week...
