no morning talk and just tazkirah...NPID meeting...May Target 2010/2Q

Day 31(Tuesday, 18 May)

meeting...meeting with huawei...site visit wisma celcom

Day 32(Wednesday, 19 May)

site visit wisma celcom

Day 33(Thursday, 20 May)

handover document...update blog

Day 34(Friday, 21 May)

update blog and logbook

Week 6(Transmission)

Day 25(Monday, 10 May)

As usual on Monday morning, tazkirah and morning talk...then I continued my job to key in data for MSR...

Day 26(Tuesday, 11 May)

today was my first time in transmission to go out from office...En Syed asked me to follow him to do LOS(Line of Sight) survey for new site at UIA and Indera Mahkota 1...MSR for both sites were already submitted to HQ...both sites need to be surveyed again because they were not sure whether the transmission link path between the new site and LOS site were not blocked...according to MSR both sites are 24 meter lamp pole...
UIA site

picture above I captured on skylift @ 24 meter...we can see Wisma Celcom tower but according to MSR the LOS is to Atabara tower(somewhere behind the hill)...since Atabara tower is blocked so we need to change the MSR...
Indera Mahkota 1 site

this picture also taken on skylift @ 24 meter...according to MSR, LOS is to Wisma Celcom...so this site has no problem...

In the afternoon, I continue on my assignment to key in data for MSR and before went home I stopped by En Syed table because I saw him using Path Loss software...so I asked him about the software...the software is use to calculate the path distance and azimuth between 2 sites...also the software is use to produce path data as to attach with MSR..we also can view the obstacle between both sites graphically...the height of the obstacle and tower are estimation but for a very long path distance or hilly area we need to use topomap to be precise...

Day 27(Wednesday, 12 May)

In the morning there were meeting with Huawei...the meeting was about the link that need to be ready for May target on air sites...other agenda was about status on new link upgrading...after the meeting I continued with MSR...

Day 28(Thursday, 13 May)

As I was heard in the NPID meeting before, this month(May) projects will be delayed even though the KPI to achieve is 32 sites...this is cause by no equipments delivered plus other region(Sarawak, Sabah and Eastern) need to wait for equipments from central(swapped - new equipments for central, used equipment for other region)...so as long as no new equipments delivered at central region, other region cannot proceed with installation...in other word, I just have to key in data for MSR for the whole day...

Day 29(Friday, 14 May)

As I said before no outdoor work can be done, so I just have to key in data for MSR and today finally I managed to finished the MSR of all 130 sites...

Week 5(Transmission)

Day 21(Monday, 3 May)

As usual today there were morning talk and tazkirah...after that, meeting for plan on air 3G for May 2010...before the meeting started I went to see En. Zaidi Razab but he was busy so  he said to see him later...back to the meeting, as to achieve the KPI, they planned 32 sites to be on air and all sites were in Terengganu and Indoor BTS since for outdoor BTS, CME need to provide new rectifier but there were no stock for rectifier...after the meeting I went to see En. Zaidi Razab but again he said to see him later...in the afternoon there were Mobile Access meeting with Alcatel...even though I'm not in mobile access, I joined the meeting since my workspace was in the planning/meeting room...the meeting was lead by my supervisor, En Norhisham...the meeting was about SSV report, handover/ATP, site on air, SDP submission, TP submission and plan on air for May, June and July...since En Zaidi was busy so I'm not reporting in today...

Day 22(Tuesday, 4 May)

so today as I arrived at the office, I immediately reporting in to him...so I show my training schedule and told him that I will be under transmission unit for 3 weeks from 3rd May until 21st May...he asked En Kamarul Firdaus to assist me during the training period as a result I was assigned to key in data for 130 Microwave Survey Report (MSR)...MSR is a report to be submitted to HQ so that they can release Distribution Microwave Program (DMP) to the vendor (Huawei) and then Huawei will release Link Budget to be used by contractor for link installation, alignment and configuration...Link Budget is a calculation involving the gain and loss factors associated with the antennas, transmitters, transmission lines and propagation environment, to determine the maximum distance at which a transmitter and receiver can successfully operate...below are the example of MSR, DMP and Link Budget (please click to see larger image)...

MSR                                                  DMP                                             Link Budget

MSR usually attached with photos of LOS view from site A to B and B to A, topomap, and Path Data...
LOS view                                          Path Data                                           Topomap

Day 23(Wednesday, 5 May)

today I continue my assignment to key in data for MSR and learn how to read latitude and longitude on topomap...for example, take the latitude and longitude from site in the MSR above, Hospital Kuala Berang, Lat : 005 03' 24.5" N  Long : 103 04' 00.1" E
in the topomap, there are only degree and minute so to get a precise location in topomap, multiply the seconds with 0.61666 where in this example for latitude 24.5 x 0.61666 = 15.1 mm while for longitude 0.1 x 0.61666 = 0.0617mm...so in the topomap for latitude, at 05 03' we add 15 mm(round up) towards North and for longitude at 103 04' we add 0.06 mm(almost 0 mm or 1 mm) towards East...
(picture will be uploaded)

Day 24(Thursday, 6 May)

again I continued key in data for MSR the whole day...

Holiday(Friday, 7 May)

1 month in mobile unit...

1st day of intern was the slowest day of the month...but without notice its already past one month...and that one month I was in the Mobile Access(MA) unit...20 days of exposed under MA unit was not enough to learn everything...but life must go on...so today and 3 weeks onwards, I will be under Transmission(Tx) unit...I hope this time there will be no more time to waste...I will try to gather as much knowledge as I can as I only have 15 days...

Week 4(Mobile Access)

Day 16(Monday, 26 April)

Morning - NPID meeting...todays meeting was attended by all NPID staff and it was so crowded in the meeting room...the meeting agenda were as following...1)NPID new organiztion structure and job distribution(JD)...2)Finalized slide for NPID HQ visits on 27 April(tomorrow)...3)Finalize slide and data for Director on Network visits on 7 May...
Afternoon - after commissioning we have to make an Acceptance Test(ATP)...so En. Zul take me to KIA Bukit Ubi and Indera Sempurna for ATP...it was raining but I still manage to take picture on the rooftop(finally)...the test was for coverage signal, speed test and alarm signal test...
Transmission link to Bukit Pelindung                     One of the antenna                         Another antenna

next was Indera Sempurna...its still raining but thanks to Maxis shelter we can do the test...
En. Zul connecting to node B                  Rectifier, modem(left),Node B(right) inside BOC(behind)

before this, I didn't manage to see the contractor finished their work and take picture of complete installation therefore here are the pictures...

Celcom's Antenna(below)              Feeder cable from antenna                  Weatherproof Feeder Earthing

Weatherproof feeder-jumper connector                          Grounding Board                                    Jumper inlet to node B

                                                                DDF                                                      Patched modem

Day 17(Tuesday, 27 April)

So as I mentioned before, today NPID from HQ will make a visits here for meeting...there were about 20 high ranked staff(technical manager, senior technical etc.) from HQ...while staff from Eastern Region involved were RNO Head, Hj. Nizam, Head of Department, En. Mohd Ridzal and all Head of Unit including my supervisor, En Wan Norhisham...so today nothing much I can do plus En Zul went outstation(for 2 days) to Kuala Lipis for new site survey with En. Syed...

Day 18(Wednesday, 28 April)

again today nothing much I can do except updating this blog...

Day 19(Thursday, 29 April)

as I arrived at the office this morning I saw En. Zul had already back from outstation but since there were no more site in Kuantan or any near site so I think today no more site visit...so I guess today I just updating this blog and self read and research in the internet...actually its already 2 weeks I didn't submit my logbook to my supervisor since that 2 weeks almost everyday I went to sites so I have a lot of things to convert from physical experience into words...so today I went to see my supervisor and he asked a lot of questions and there were some things that I didn't notice when I was at sites and that make him a little disappointed but he said its okay but the one that loss was me so he gives me some advice and learn from the mistake...so after that I quickly search the internet for the things that I didn't know...along with that En. Zul came to see me so I asked him everything that I have been asked by En Wan Norhisham that I didn't know...he also shows me the site master...site master is the equipment to test the Distance to Fault(DTF) and Voltage Standing Wave Ratio(VSWR)...
Anritsu S331D Site Master Cable and Antenna Analyzer

Day 20(Friday, 30 April)

next week I will be under Transmission unit...En Wan Norhisham was not the Head of Unit of Transmission anymore and the the new Head of Unit was En. Zaidi Ab Razab...before, he was the senior technical officer...so En Wan Norhisham asked me to change the Reporting to Head of Unit column in my industrial training schedule for Transmission unit and told me next week I must report to En. Zaidi...

Week 3(Mobile Access)

Day 11(Monday, 19 April)

NPID meeting...meeting agenda were as following...1)Status update on April target on air sites...2)Site Aquired(SAQ)...3)Plan on air for May target...4)CME Purchase Requisition(PR) status...the meeting start about 10.30am...all HOU were involved and other technical officer too...so the meeting room quite crowded...in the morning session they were focusing on CME PR status...there were 25 own build sites...7 on tower...6 on lampole...6 on building and 6 on monopole...they also discuss on site aquired on SBC(company assigned by MCMC) sites...the meeting continue in the afternoon and this time they were discussing about the status update for April on air target and planned for May on air sites...according to KPI for May there were 25 sites 3G sites all in Terengganu supposed to be on air but as told by the logistic, there were limited equipment(node B) which was only for 10 sites(9 indoor, 1 outdoor)...so from 25 sites they discussed which sites were ready for installation..

Day 12(Tuesday, 20 April)

I didn't notified by En. Zul that today we are going for site visits so I dressed formal, suddenly that morning  he asked me to follow him to KIA Bukit Ubi and Dungun for commissioning...in the morning we(En. Zul and I) went to KIA Bukit Ubi because last week there were no rectifier as requested but on the weekend they sent the rectifier but with no battery so today the battery was delivered...at the site, the modem, node B and DDF was already patch but the PCM and alarm wiring from node B to DDF was untidy so En. Zul told the contractor to fix it...
SAFT Rectifier without battery                        Huawei RTN620 modem                         DDF(above), DF for alarm(below)

arround 11am we went for commissioning 2G site(site ID: Risdam)...location Terengganu(Dungun) around 110km from Kuantan...
                  Tower Structure                                                     Outside                                      BOC,DB,cable ladder(behind)

Before commissioning, we have to make a loop at the modem and contact switching technical officer in Semambu to make sure that the site was connected/linked to the switch/RNC...then we rearrange the cards(TRE(trans receive equipment), ANC(antenna network combiner), SUMA(station unit module advanced)) of the RBS(Alcatel Evolium A9100) according to sector(1,2,3) for easy maintenance and upgrading and make the wiring/connection look tidy...then connect the network interface Port 1(75 ohm) to modem(120 ohm)...this connection must be interconnected by Balun...then connect ABIS port 1 to the laptop(serial port) to access into the RBS system and setting the Q mark address so that switching in Semambu can remotely access to the RBS because all the settings will be uploaded from there into RBS(on site just connect and put address)...
Rearrange the BTS cards according to sector                                        Huawei RTN620 Modem

View inside of BOC                                         Commissioning in progress                        Generator set(GENSET)

on site, we just have to wait for switching finished upload all the data into RBS...here we can see the RBS LED indicator whether the uploading is complete...after uploading complete, we have to connect the alarm wiring(main failure, rectifier failure and door open) and test whether the alarm functioning or not...thats all for commissioning 2G, next we make a drive test for signal coverage and test call...

Day 13(Wednesday, 21 April)

yesterday En. Zul said that today we will go to site in Temerloh so I didn't bring my laptop suddenly En. Zul told me that its not today...I didn't know what to do in the morning...I just read over and over the Microwave Survey Report(MSR), Cell Design Data(CDD), and SDP...all the document was dated 2007...therefore today I went lunch a little bit early and bring my laptop in the afternoon...in the afternoon, En. Zul asked me to follow him to Celcom Semambu(RNC and mobile switching centre,MSC) to search for antenna bracket for Kg. Jembal sites because logistic didn't send any bracket to the site so currently the antenna is attach to the boom using cable tie...there I can see how they monitor the connection between the MSC and all the RBS in the Eastern Region...they can monitor how many people were using the line for each sector and alarm from any RBS if occured...
Tower at Semambu Exchange                     Switching/RNC building                                     Warehouse/store

Day 14(Thursday,22 April)

so today the activity was 3G commissioning at KIA Bukit Ubi...as arrived there Alcatel contractor(Abg Khalid and Abg Zarul) was already there and try to ping from the site to RNC in Indera Mahkota but failed...FYI for 3G commissioning, the contractor from vendor(Alcatel) will do the commissioning different compare to 2G which Celcom technician can done it plus all the settings were given by the vendor and the settings/data have to be upload on site...for 3G the connection between node B and RNC is using IP Address...3G configuration used at this site is 8E1(8 x 2Mbps = 16Mbps) of data rate transfer...but for commissioning purpose they only connect 1E1 from node B to DDF...
Pinging to RNC(Indera Mahkota) in progress                               Modem already patched to DDF

since they cannot ping from here to RNC so there must be an interconnection problems...as usual first thing in troubleshooting was to check the physical interconnection...but then still cannot ping...so maybe the interconnection between node B and RNC...so they called staff in RNC to reset IMA(interconnection from transmission link/MW and RNC/switching) in Indera Mahkota...but still failed to ping...in the afternoon they still cannot ping to RNC...after resetting the IMA for second time, they succesfully ping to RNC...commissioning complete...they connect all 8E1 from node B to DDF and node B LED indicator signal green(ok)...
Me on site                                       Node B physical connection troubleshoot

Day 15(Friday,23 April)

In the morning today, there was a meeting to list down issues and action plan due to NPID HQ will be visiting NPID Eastern Region on 27 April and also meeting on status update for April on air target...1)KIA Bukit Ubi Port 8E1 failed...2)Kg. Teluk(3G) in Kelantan Port 7E1 failed...3)Indera Sempurna no problem(8E1 commissioned)...so in the afternoon, I joined En. Zul went to KIA Bukit Ubi for troubleshooting but first we make a drive test for coverage signal and speed test at Indera Sempurna...all the residential area of Indera Sempurna was covered with 3G...next is KIA Bukit Ubi...there will be also Alcatel contractor(Abg. Zarul)...we disconnect all 8 connection from node B at DDF and connect only port 8 but still failed(node B LED indicator-red)...so En. Zul contact technician at Bukit Pelindung to make a loop(just connect KIA Bukit Ubi and Bukit Pelindung)...the node B indicator was green...so thats mean between this site to Bukit Pelindung has no problem...therefore there must be a connection problem between Bukit Pelindung to RNC in Indera Mahkota...so we just connect back all 8 connection from node B at DDF...
